We believe you shouldn’t have to choose between products that work and ingredients you feel good about using. At Scentral Zone, every ingredient is intentionally selected to serve a purpose. We choose not to formulate with certain ingredients because they don’t align with our commitment to clean, plant-powered products, ingredient transparency, and thoughtful formulation.
What We Leave Out Matters, Too

Parabens:
We leave them out because they are synthetic preservatives that have raised concerns due to potential hormone (endocrine) activity. We choose alternative preservation systems that align with our clean beauty standards. -
Phthalates:
We leave them out because these plasticizing chemicals are often associated with synthetic fragrance blends, and some phthalates have been linked to endocrine disruption concerns. We use thoughtfully selected essential oils instead. -
PFAS (“forever chemicals”):
We leave them out because these highly persistent chemicals can accumulate in the environment and have raised health concerns due to their persistence and potential effects on the body. -
Formaldehyde & formaldehyde-releasing preservatives:
We leave them out because these preservatives can release formaldehyde over time and may cause skin irritation or sensitivity in some individuals. -
Synthetic fragrances:
We leave them out because artificial fragrance blends may contain undisclosed fragrance ingredients and can be a source of irritation or sensitivity for some people. Our scents are created with essential oils and naturally derived aromatic ingredients. -
Mineral oil:
We leave it out because it is a petroleum-derived ingredient used as a skin barrier. We choose plant-derived alternatives that align with our preference for naturally sourced ingredients. -
Petrolatum (petroleum jelly):
We leave it out because it is a petroleum-derived occlusive ingredient. We choose plant-based alternatives whenever possible. -
PEGs (polyethylene glycols):
We leave them out because these synthetic ingredients are commonly used as emulsifiers, thickeners, and texture enhancers. Some consumers avoid PEGs due to concerns around potential impurities from manufacturing processes. -
Silicones (such as dimethicone):
We leave them out because these synthetic polymers are used to create a smooth, silky feel but create a temporary barrier on the skin that may trap buildup, leaving some skin types feeling congested. We choose plant-based alternatives that support skin without relying on synthetic texture enhancers. -
Sulfates (SLS/SLES):
We leave them out because these cleansing agents create foam but can be drying or irritating for some skin types, especially sensitive skin. -
Artificial colors/dyes:
We leave them out because these synthetic color additives do not provide functional benefits and may cause sensitivity or irritation in some individuals. We prefer naturally derived colors when color is needed. -
Triclosan & triclocarban:
We leave them out because these antimicrobial ingredients have raised concerns regarding environmental impact and potential effects on hormone function. -
EDTA and related chelating agents:
We leave them out because these synthetic stabilizers are used to improve formula performance, but some consumers avoid them due to environmental persistence concerns. -
BHA/BHT (butylated hydroxyanisole and butylated hydroxytoluene):
We leave them out because these synthetic antioxidants are used to prevent oxidation but have raised concerns regarding potential hormone activity and long-term exposure. -
Coal tar dyes:
We leave them out because these synthetic colorants derived from coal tar may cause sensitivity concerns and are avoided by many clean beauty brands. -
Aluminum compounds:
We leave them out because these active ingredients are commonly used in antiperspirants to temporarily block sweat glands. We choose aluminum-free approaches for personal care formulations. -
Phenoxyethanol:
A synthetic preservative commonly used to prevent the growth of bacteria, yeast, and mold in cosmetic products. Some studies have raised questions about potential health effects at high doses or under certain laboratory conditions, and some individuals may experience skin sensitivity. We choose alternative preservation systems that better align with our commitment to naturally derived formulations.
Choosing what we leave out is just as intentional as choosing what we put in.
